What this is

Editorial content, not professional advice

Everything on this site is editorial opinion and general information about homebrewing equipment. It is researched carefully and published under a stated method -- see how we pick -- and it is not professional, engineering, electrical, medical or legal advice.

Specifications quoted here come from manufacturers and retailers and can change without notice. Verify any specification that matters to your decision with the manufacturer before purchasing, particularly dimensions, voltages and pressure ratings.

Safety

Read this part properly

• Pressure vessels. Only ever pressurize a vessel explicitly rated for pressure, with a working pressure relief or spunding valve fitted, and never above its stated rating. A gasketed atmospheric lid is not designed to contain pressure and failure is violent, not merely messy.
• Electrical work. Where this site discusses 240V circuits, element wattages and current draw, that is general information, not an installation guide. Electrical work should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with local codes.
• Combustion. Propane burners produce carbon monoxide and must be used outdoors or with ventilation designed for combustion appliances. A partly open garage door is not adequate.
• Compressed gas. CO2 cylinders are pressure vessels. Secure them upright, check test dates, and do not modify regulators.
• Bottle conditioning. Over-priming or bottling a back-sweetened beverage without stabilizing it can cause bottles to burst. Measure priming sugar with a calculator.
• Hot liquids. Do not attempt to lift or tip a vessel containing near-boiling liquid.
