What this site collects, what it does not, and what happens to the data that does exist.

Summary
The short version
Wort & Keg is a publisher. We do not sell anything, we have no accounts to log into, and we do not run advertising networks. The only personal data we hold is what you send us in an email or a contact form, and the only third-party data collection is Google Analytics and whatever the retailers do once you click through to them.
We do not sell, rent or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. There is no mailing list to be added to.
What we collect
Information you give us directly
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you send: your name, your email address, the topic you selected and your message.
- What we use it for: replying to you, and acting on corrections you report. Nothing else.
- Where it goes: an email inbox operated by MadGrey LLC. Form submissions are delivered as email via Microsoft Graph; we do not store them in a separate database.
- How long we keep it: as long as the correspondence is useful. Ask us to delete a message and we will.
- Spam protection: the contact form records the time the page loaded and your IP address is briefly held in memory to enforce a submission rate limit. Neither is stored persistently or used for anything else.
Analytics
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which are not. It collects standard web analytics data: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, how you arrived, and whether you clicked a buy link.
This data is processed by Google. We see it in aggregate and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it. Google’s own handling of the data is governed by their privacy policy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using Google’s browser add-on.
We do not run advertising networks, retargeting pixels, social media trackers or heatmap recording tools on this site.
Cookies
What is set, and by whom
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, which distinguish one visitor from another so page counts are meaningful.
- Retailer cookies, set when you click through to a retailer. Those are set by the retailer on their own domain and govern their affiliate attribution -- they are how Amazon knows a purchase came via this site. We have no access to them.
- No advertising or tracking cookies are set by us.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect how the site works.
Affiliate links
What the retailer sees
Product links on this site route through our own /go/ path, which adds an affiliate tag and redirects you to the retailer. That redirect does not store anything about you.
Once you arrive at the retailer, you are subject to their privacy policy and their data collection, not ours. We receive no personal information about purchases -- affiliate reporting tells us that a sale happened and what the commission was, never who made it.
Full detail on how the funding works is on the affiliate disclosure page.
Hosting and infrastructure
Who processes the data
- Hosting: this site is served by Vercel, which records standard server request logs.
- Email delivery: contact form submissions are sent via Microsoft Graph to an inbox operated by MadGrey LLC.
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4, as described above.
Each of those providers processes data under their own terms. We do not use any other third-party processor.
Your rights
What you can ask for
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing. Since the only personal data we hold is correspondence you sent us, exercising these is usually straightforward: email us and ask.
We do not sell personal information, so there is no sale to opt out of. If you are in California and wish to confirm that, this paragraph is that confirmation.
Children
Age
This site is about brewing alcoholic beverages and is intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and we have no accounts or profiles in which such information could be held.
Changes
If this policy changes
If we change how data is handled, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be reflected here rather than announced separately, since there is no mailing list to announce them to.
